US drone strike kills terrorist behind attack on Sri Lankan cricket team

Kabul: United States (US) drone strike killed highly wanted terrorist Qari Yaseen who was involved in attacking General Headquarters and Sri Lankan cricket team in Barmal District of Paktika province, Afghanistan.

The drone strike carried out by United States targeted a vehicle, in Barmal district, in which Qari Yaseen and his three companions were traveling.

Yaseen was the wanted militant, affiliated with several terrorist outfits; he also assisted Al-Qaeda and Jandullah.

He belonged to the Lodhran district of Punjab, was wanted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan for attacks on GHQ Rawalpindi, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lahore and Multan offices, Marriot Hotel.

Yaseen was also responsible for 2009 attacks on Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan and Data Darbar Lahore; his involvement was also hinted behind several other terrorist activities.

He was said to be an expert in improvised explosive device (IEDs) and bomb making. He also attacked former president of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf. 

Yaseen was behind attacks on Pakistan Army colonel and Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada and facilitared several terrorist groups to conduct attacks in Pakistan.

Sources told that, he along with his three accomplices was killed in US drone strike on Sunday evening.

On March 2, in another US drone strike, senior commander from the Afghan Taliban Qari Abdullah Subari and another terrorist Shakir, a Taliban member, were also killed.
