Manchester: UEFA Champions League first leg of the semi-final between Real Madrid and Manchester City ended without scoring a goal. Both teams failed to score while visitors Madrid had a little impact but City’s best Joe Hart saved every short from the strikers of Real Madrid. Highest goal scorer of UCL Ronaldo didn’t play the match.
Both sides created chances during the Real game superstar Cristiano Ronaldo missed because of a thigh injury.
Madrid still had Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, but nobody occupies the thoughts of opposition defenders more than the three-time Ballon d’Or winner so, without Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane’s team looked needy and incomplete.
Every time Ronaldo gets the ball there is a sense of the unexpected and for the other team’s supporters, a sudden wave of apprehension.
Real Madrid got chances twice in the final quarter as Joe Hart denied Casemiro and Pepe after a corner kick from Kroos.
Manchester City failed to register a shot on target until injury time when Kevin de Bruyne’s free-kick was tipped over.
Manchester City did a good job as they haven’t conceded an away goal against a free-scoring Real Madrid team without their most potent weapon but know they will need a monumental defensive effort to keep out the Spanish giants at the Santiago Bernabeu a week on Wednesday.
The winner from them will play against Atletico Madrid or Bayern Munich on 28 May in Milan.
