UAE police officer facing charges over posting video of Messi’s passport

DUBAI: United Arab Emirate’s police officer has appeared in the court over holding Barcelona Star Lionel Messi’s passport.

On Tuesday, the police officer appeared in Dubai’s Court of Misdemeanors over the posting the video to the mobile phone app Snap chat in December, Abu Dhabi’s state run The National newspaper reported.

Barcelona and star player Lionel Messi triumphed at the seventh edition of the Globe Soccer Awards here earlier, taking home the prizes for best team and best player.

Only the Spanish Super Cup eluded them with a loss to Athletic Bilbao.

Belgian coach Marc Wilmots was named best manager while Benfica took the award for best club academy.

Italy’s Andrea Pirlo and England’s Frank Lampard were lauded for their long careers.

Lionel Messi deposed eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo to take back his crown as the undisputed king of world football by lifting a record fifth Ballon d’Or on Monday.

His benching for a 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad the most ignominious start to what would turn out to be the second most successful in Barca’s 116-year history.

Messi missed an open training session with the club’s fans, Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta was sacked and club legend Carles Puyol walked.

He used the fuel of the most disappointing year of his career in 2014 to fire Barca to a treble of Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey trophies.

Whilst others may use his record with Argentina to doubt his candidacy as the best player ever, in Barcelona 2015 enshrined his legacy as the greatest.

United States World Cup-winning captain Carli Lloyd won the FIFA women’s world player of the year award for 2015.

Lloyd, of New Jersey, got more than 35 percent of votes made by national team captains and coaches, plus invited journalists, on a 10-player ballot.

Celia Sasic of Germany got 12.6 percent of the votes and third place Aya Miyama of Japan got almost 10 percent.

National captain Lloyd scored a hat trick as the United States defeated Japan 5-2 in July’s World Cup final in Vancouver with one of the goals a spectacular lob from the centre of the pitch.

Messi has been nominated for his goal for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Cup final which saw the Argentine star weave his way past four defenders as well as the goalkeeper before scoring.
