Trump names son-in-law as his senior adviser
New York: US President-elect Donald Trump has named his son-in-law Mr Jared Kushner as one of his senior advisers, the sources reported on Tuesday.
According to the sources, Mr Jared Kushner, 35, played a vital role and remained much influential during his father-in-law’s election 2016 campaign, but his new job has created a number of complications and legal questions among the media.
“Jared has been a tremendous asset and trusted adviser throughout the campaign and transition and I am proud to have him in a key leadership role in my administration,” announced the Republican president-elect.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kushner is a property developer, magazine publisher and is the husband of Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka. Moreover, he is being credited with the brain behind the success of his father-in-law.
It is noteworthy here that the then US government had passed a nepotism law when former US president John F Kennedy appointed his own brother as attorney general. This law prohibits any president to appoint any of his relative.
“Mr Kushner is committed to complying with federal ethics laws and we have been consulting with the Office of Government Ethics regarding the steps he would take,” said Jamie Gorelick, a partner at firm WilmerHale and a former deputy attorney general under president Bill Clinton, in a statement.
But advisors of president-elect are saying that Mr Jared could get some margin because it is concerning to White House and not the cabinet.
The sources added that Ivanka’s hubby would cover both domestic and foreign policy being in the White House. The news was confirmed by Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway, who described it as the “best news of the day”.
In addition to, Mr Kushner had said during an interview that he would resign as boss of his family’s business if he took a White House job.
According to the sources, at the age of just 25 he bought the New York Observer newspaper in 2006 and moreover he owns 666 Fifth Avenue, a skyscraper few blocks down from Trump Tower.
