Trump gives CIA power to launch drone strikes

Washington: US president Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) secret new authority to conduct drone strikes against suspected terrorists, international media reports.

The action takes drone strikes out of the control of the military forces, the authority shift will not compensate US drone strikes to be reported or disclosed or its effects.

Earlier, during Obama’s region the power belonged to the Pentagon; secret agencies could just track and report about the suspected terrorists but military forces had to do actual strikes.

Targeting of Abu al-Khayr al-Masria, a high-level al-Qaeda leader in Syria, was the example of new powers to CIA, says International media.

Abu al-Khayr was killed in February.

However, CIA, White House and defense ministry has refused to comment over the transfer of power.
