Supreme Court Disappointed with KPK Police

Today, the Supreme Court of Pakistan articulated discontent on the performance of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police in Asma rape, murder case inquiry.

IG KPK, Salahuddin Mehsud, was presented before a three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar.

“How good is the police force of KP?” CJP inquired. “These [suo moto] notices are taken for citizens.”

“It is mandatory for police to provide security,” he observed. “A girl suffered such a horrible fate yet there is no progress.”

As directed by the apex court, Punjab Forensic Laboratory will immediately submit forensics report to KPK police.

More two weeks have been granted for investigation in this matter by the supreme court. Hearing will be resumed on February 21, 2018.

In the meantime, the three-judge bench observed that “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry should be present during the proceedings to note the competency of KPK police”.

The observations were made in the hearing of Asma Rani murder case in Kohat. According to Fawad, “KP police is exemplary,” and the Justice Nisar said. “Cases should be heard in his presence.”

The CJP further inquired Director-General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon to appear before the court today, to plan and present the time-frame in which the prime-suspect of Asma Rani case, Muhajidullah, could be brought back from Dubai.

Bashir Memon, DG FIA, informed the court that “the officials were unsure whether Mujahiddullah was in Dubai or Saudi Arabia. It appears to be a fully planned murder committed by the suspect,”

The CJP further inquired about the suspect’s Dubai’s Iqama. “Red warrants for the suspect have to be issued,” CJP notified.

The court also summoned PTI District President, Aftab Alam, in next hearing.
