Sindh Minister Nisar Khuhro smokes openly in Sindh Assembly

KARACHI: On Tuesday, Nisar Khuhro Sindh’s Senior Minister violated the rules of Sindh Assembly openly by desecrating the sanctity of the house and smoking a cigarette.

He shredded the house rules to pieces when he openly lit a cigarette and started smoking when the today’s National Assembly’s session came to an end.

It is the same assembly which had passed a resolution against smoking, MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi said. And said that, Nisar Khuhro has committed a mother of all violations inside the assembly.

Sindh Education Minister Nisar Khuhro took notice of the mistreatment of journalists covering a protest at Karachi University earlier, at the hands of campus security guards, and ordered Karachi police to provide security to journalists.

Earlier, journalists from various media organizations were covering a students’ protest inside the university when security guards manhandled them on the pretext that media coverage was not allowed inside the institution’s premises.

The protest by the varsity’s female students, staged outside the KU admin block, was aimed at expressing displeasure over the mistreatment of female students by a student group when the former were playing cricket at the campus.

Sindh Minister for Information Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has rejected reports that some PPP leaders are preparing to part ways with the party, adding that those who have already deserted the party know very well where their fate is headed.

Mr Khuhro, along with Sindh Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, was briefing journalists after an important party meeting headed by PPP chairman Bilawal Butto Zardari at Naudero House.

The PPP head met elected representatives of the PPP, party office-bearers and workers of Sukkur division in what was being touted as the second phase of intra-party discussions on forthcoming local bodies’ elections and other party issues.

He said that despite the fact the PPP had laid down unprecedented sacrifices for democracy and people, its leadership had never escaped to safe havens abroad.

About MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s latest statement, he said that the former sometimes issued such statements in an emotional frame of mind.

Mr Khuhro said in answer to a question that Sindh Governor Dr Istratul Ibad had met former president Asif Ali Zardari in his capacity as governor of Sindh as the MQM had already disowned him.

He called for a halt to what he described as a policy of political victimization meted out by the ruling party and said that it would not only cause political polarization but would also deal a serious blow to democratic institutions.
