Our deposed and disqualified former PM, Nawaz Sharif, left for London on Wednesday, along with his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, to attend to his ailing wife, Kulsom Nawaz. Amid speculations and still under trial, Sharif’s may not return due to a likely conviction in three corruption cases against him.

It is speculated that Sharif’s may skip his appearance before a combined investigation team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Lahore on 21 April.

Sharif was summoned by NAB for allegedly misusing his authority being a PM for the illegal construction of the road leading to his Jati Umra, Raiwind residence. The disqualified Sharif is due to appear in the accountability court on 23 April 2018 in a corruption case.

“Begum Kulsoom Nawaz has been under treatment in a hospital in London as her condition is serious,” as told by the family spokesperson. He further added, “…because of her serious condition Sharif and his daughter have to be with her.

Maryam also tweeted about her mother. “My mother is hospitalized again. Remember her in your special prayers. I know prayers can do wonders. Allah answers prayers,” Maryam tweeted:

Mrs Sharif, last year, had undergone a surgery for lymphoma (throat cancer). Her condition recently deteriorated leading to her re-hospitalization.

After meeting her mother,  Maryam Nawaz further tweeted:

Despite many demands from opposition and in defiance of NAB directives, Pakistan’s prime minister Shahid Khakan Abbasi; whose PM is the disqualified Sharif, had shown reluctance to place the names of Nawaz Sharif and his family on the Exit Control List (ECL). Except for Begum Kulsom, the entire Sharif clan is being tried in accountability courts over the Panama Leaks cases. Sharif’s two sons, Hasan and Hussain are already in London. They have been declared proclaimed offenders by the NAB in the corruption cases against them.

“Nawaz Sharif and Maryam left the country at the time when a decision against them by the accountability court is about to come,” Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf senior leader and a seasoned lawyer of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Dr. Babar Awan said and also claimed that “Sharif would not return to the country”.
