Setting up examination centre in Lahore sparks dismay, outrage among girl students, parents

RAWALPINDI, November 13 (Online): Girl students and their parents have voiced grave concern over setting up examination centre for the paper of Fine arts at Lahore by University of Punjab (UP) in respect of girl students hailing from Rawalpindi in third year BA supplementary examination.

The girl students said “ this is tyrannical and Sikha shahi (draconian) order for them as they are residents of Rawalpindi and it is anti students act to direct them to appear in fine arts subjects in Lahore from Rawalpindi. Most of us are from poor families therefore, how our parents who are from lower strata of society can afford their expenses of boarding, lodging and travelling in Lahore. They are already paying our fee in difficult situation as the financial constraints don’t allow them to send us to Lahore for sitting in examination.

The parents said we are already suffering from mental agony on the PU decision for establishing examination centres for our young daughters in Lahore. We hardly meet our day to day expenses out of our hard earned daily income, therefore, how can we afford the hotel and travelling expenses of our daughter during their stay in Lahore.

They called upon PU authorities “ be compassionate on our nerves and set up examination centre for our daughters in Rawalpindi. If a daughter of Pakistan can become prime minister of the county then why the PU authorities are hell bent upon depriving our daughters of their fundamental right of education, they questioned.
