Say no to Abortions!

According to a recent study the estimate of 2.25 millions of abortions were conducted in Pakistan in 2012. Almost all of them were kept as secret and lives of women were highly at risk.

Women in Pakistan have a high level of unmet need for contraception— estimated at 20% in 2012–2013. This results in high rates of unintended pregnancy, unplanned births and induced abortion.

The decline in the number of births in Pakistan has been slower than in other Asian countries. The total fertility rate dropped from about six children per woman in the early 1980s to 4.4 in 2003. However, the rate decreased more slowly from 2006 to 2013 (from 4.1 to 3.8). On average, Pakistani women still have one child more than they desire.

‘Induced Abortions and Unintended Pregnancies in Pakistan’ research shows, in 2012, an estimated 623,000 Pakistani women were treated for complications resulting from induced abortions, the vast majority of which were performed by unqualified people or involved traditional methods.

It gave the conclusion that there is a need to provide the awareness of family planning among couples. Couples also pay less attention to demands of other family members such as mothers-in-law regarding number of children. Moreover, the report notes that religion is no longer a reason for people to hesitate from using contraceptives.

In Pakistan, abortion is legally allowed only to save the life of a woman or to provide “necessary treatment” early in pregnancy. Given a lack of clarity in interpreting the law, legal abortion services are difficult to obtain, and most women who have an abortion resort to clandestine and unsafe procedures.

In 2012, there were approximately nine million pregnancies in Pakistan, of which 4.2 million were unintended. Of these unintended pregnancies, 54% resulted in induced abortions and 34% in unplanned births.

Here comes another factor pushing towards abortions is unforced adultery. This norm is almost destroying the lives of young women in Pakistan. In such cases girls are forced to get services of any type of doctor without knowing her/his abilities and sometimes they loose their lives.

And what about those children who are being killed for no reason?

In Islam,  Allah says “Whosoever has spared the life of a soul, it is as though he has spared the life of all people. Whosoever has killed a soul, it is as though he has murdered all of mankind.”

Islam allows abortion to save the life of the mother because it sees this as the ‘lesser of two evils’ and there is a general principle in Sharia(Muslim law) of choosing the lesser of two evils.

According to Islam a woman could terminate a pregnancy if she was in immediate danger. Islam does not permit abortion where an unwanted pregnancy is the result of unforced adultery.

Not only its religiously forbidden but woman loses her confidence, self respect and start having a constant guilt which she can never abolish from her heart. It damages the personality of woman and also it is highly risky and dangerous for her mental and physical health as well.

There are so many incidents we have witnessed that pre mature babies or aborted ones are found out from the trash in the streets. The Crown of Creature, the human being, the one for whom angels asked Allah why He is creating them and He said “You do not know what i know”, how can this human being be so merciless and cruel?

And these abortions have pathetic impacts on our society as well. It depicts the nature, norm and the mentality of a society. Where a mother is murderer of her own child what kind of positive vibes we expect from others? This shows the rough, unethical, weak and brutal sides of a society.

A woman can build a good generation and a nation and she is loosing her dignity by indulging herself in such ferocious act.

For couples we need to start awareness about precautions before expecting the baby and pregnancies by unforced adultery, we need to start awareness of ethics, values and norms and need to educate them at least not to play with a newborn’s life.

After all this is your life you have all rights to lead it the way you want but at least be sympathetic with the one who is killed by you for no reason. And consider it as a crime a big crime. Because after all you are “Crown of Creature” and “it is not about choice, it is about a child.”
