ATC issues release order for Dr Asim
Karachi: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued release order of Dr. Asim Hussain, leader of Pakistan Peoples Party and former federal minister, in a case relating to the alleged treatment of terrorists at his hospital.
Dr Asim was booked under charges for allegedly treating suspected terrorists, militants and gangsters in his hospital at the demand of some Muttahidda Qaumi Movement’s and Pakistan Peoples Party’s leaders.
Earlier today, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted bail to Dr. Asim in corruption references, filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), after the submission of surety bonds worth Rs.5 million.
Dr Asim, a close friend of co-chairman of PPP and former president Asif Ali Zardari, was arrested in August 2015 by Rangers. After three months in preventive detention, military forces handed him over to the police on charges of providing medical facilities to militants.
Before Asim several other accused, who have connection with PPP, have been set free in other cases. Earlier this month, Islamabad High Court approved the bail plea of Sharjeel Memon in corruption reference of billions, illegal award of advertisements and inappropriate use of provincial government’s funds.
Former federal minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi has also been set free last weak after court acquitted him in Hajj corruption case. Just after the arrival of Zardari in Pakistan, Ayyan Ali’s name was also removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) after which she took off for Dubai.
