Rain may trigger urban flooding in Karachi

Pakistan Meteorological Department Deputy Director Aleemul Hassan has warned that Karachi will receive approximate 100-150 millimetre rain.

The new spell of rain begins on Wednesday in Karachi and will continue until Friday. According to the Met Office, low air pressure will enter northern Arabian Sea that may turn into a storm. The weather system is currently in the Indian city of Gujarat and will enter Pakistan through Thatta.

The low air pressure may trigger a rainstorm in Karachi on Eidul Azha. The situation will also occur in flooding in Karachi due to choked drains.

Meanwhile, according to the Met Office during the next 24 hours, widespread rain/thunderstorm with gusty winds (isolated heavy to very heavy falls) is expected in lower Sindh (Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Karachi divisions) and at scattered places in Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Kalat, Hazara divisions. Rain is also expected at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan Zhob divisions and Kashmir. Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
