Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Absar Alam while speaking at a press conference on Monday appealed to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar to expedite the judicial process that has seen 333 out of 357 Pemra notices challenged and stalled in the courts.
He mentioned that employees of PEMRA, including himself, were being subjected to serious threats from unidentified people.
Last week, Pemra revoked the license of Bol TV over the lack of security clearance for its directors.
Absar Alam said that,
“We can’t even enforce the code of conduct that we have in place, All the channels are equal to me.
I also wrote the letter to the Chief of Army Staff, Chief Justice and also Prime Minister. Sources of Pemra are very limited. Prime Minister does not give us time so we have to do Press Confrence.”
