Rawalpindi: The police officials of New Town have suggested terrorism case among other cases to be registered against former MNA of Nawaz-league Hanif Abbasi and other attackers.

According to the reports, as many as fifteen police officials confirmed before the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) that former MNA of PMLN Hanif Abbasi attacked New Town Police Station with 400 PMLN workers.

The former MNA and Metro Bus Project head Hanif Abbasi attacked the police station of New Town in order to release three boys held on charges of one wheeling, the CTO said.

According to the sources, the police personnel appeared before Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar Ghias Gul, who replaced Muhammad Iqbal as Investigative Officer (IO) of the incident by Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja.

One of the fifteen police personnel told that they appeared before the court informing the IO that over 400 men led by Abbasi attacked the police station and ransacked the front desk room.

The police officials told that the former PMLN MNA Hanif Abbasi was very furious over the arrest of three boys involved in wheeling and rash driving.

They had been arrested from outside a marriage hall on 6th Road, where PMLN workers were holding a youth convention, the police officer said.

When the police refused to release the boys, Mr Hanif Abbasi expressed his annoyance with the SHO, the police official further told.

Over this, the PMLN workers became angry and smashed window panes and threw away case files in the front desk room, he added.

The police officials including SHO further informed that Hanif Abbasi also threatened the SHO with dire consequences if he did not release the PMLN workers.

The police officers further said that the IO had also obtained CCTV footage from the New Town police.

Furthermore, PTI Punjab MPA Asif Mehmood submitted an adjournment move in the provincial assembly against the alleged attack by the PMLN workers on the police station.

Hanif Abbasi contested election from NA-56 in 2013 general elections against Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI) and was defeated by Imran Khan.

He was elected MNA in 2008 general elections on the ticket of PMLN. Moreover, he had been involved in ephedrine controversy in 2012.
