The newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken the oath of office at a ceremony at the President House this morning. Today, Pakistan warmly welcomed its 22nd PM-elect, Imran Khan, who struggled for more than twenty-two years to reach to the top.
PM Khan, who won the ICC World Cup of 1992, has made history today as he is the only cricketer in the history of the world who has become the head of the state. It is an honour not only for Pakistan but for the entire cricketing world. When he captained the team of Pakistan to win the world cup, no one believed in his conviction that he would, but he did.
When he started the project at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, nobody believed him. But 20 years on, now we two free Shaukat Khanum Hospitals. And it is accredited the best hospital at par with the international medical standards by the international medical community.
His political journey was also laced with identical hiccups. Many trials and tribulations came along the way. But this man with the nerves of steel never gave up, just kept moving. Many called him a novice, someone who does not know how politics work in Pakistan.
But, today, President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath of PM Imran Khan following a day after he was elected as 22nd prime minister of the country by the National Assembly to form the government in the capital.
PM Elect, Imran Khan, in the classic black Sherwani, took the oath, received the guard of honour, served the guests with simple tea and biscuits, and left for Banigala after this. He was accompanied by his third wife: Bushra Khan, a spiritual leader.
The oath-taking ceremony has been graced by political, social and media dignitaries and with a special guest from across the border, Navjot Sign Sidhu, who has been his close friend and colleague in cricket. The winning team of 1992 world cup also attended the session.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Javed Qamar Bajwa, also grace the occasion with two other service army heads to the most awaited and cherished moment in the history of Pakistan.
A beautiful moment was seen when COAS greeted Sidhu with immense warmth and chatted with him for a good couple of minutes.
Major media dignitaries also included Dr. Salman Ahmad, Ibrar ul Haq, Javed Sheikh, Qasuris, and Vikram Mehta-his close friend also attended the prestigious session.
Newly-elected PM, Imran Khan, yesterday, won against Shahbaz Sharif (PML-N President), with 176 votes, for the seat of the premier. Whereas Sharif could only get 96 votes. Against the much hue and cry, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami abstained from voting to support Shahbaz Sharif. The oppositional front which was earlier touted as a grand alliance melted away in a matter of few days.
For decades, Khan was regarded as a political dilettante who could not encash his sportsman glory into a political victory for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). But on July 25, the results of the General Elections (GE) 2018, dramatically changed the political scenario. The narrative of Khan to stand against the corrupt mafia won the hearts of Pakistani people. With the maximum representation of GE-2018, PTI party won the most seats in July’s elections-setting up Imran Khan to become PM.
