PEMRA Fines Nickelodeon For Showing Inappropriate Cartoons

PEMRA has imposed a fine on children’s cartoon channel, Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon, also known as Nick aired an episode of the cartoon series Winx Club which showed characters dressed inappropriately, hence the channel is being charged a fine of Rs.500,000 by The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.

The notice clearly states that the fine was on an episode of the cartoon series where, “A cartoon character is indecently dressed.”

The indecent clothes are the bathing suits the characters are wearing on the beach. Reports have revealed that PEMRA issued a notice on April 28, 2017 after the episode was aired and after a hearing in the court, the fine was imposed, along with a warning to be more cautious while airing future episodes of the series.

Winx Club is an Italian animated series that is dubbed and edited in the United States of America.  It has been airing for over a decade now and remains to be one of the most popular TV shows for many children, especially girls.

The show is about a group of young girls who are also fairies.
