Pakistan urges NSG to consider entry application

ISLAMABAD (Online): Foreign Office has said that Pakistan will get membership of SCO at Tashkent and urged Nuclear Suppliers Group to consider entry applications of Pakistan and India simultaneously and in an even handed manner keeping in view the region’s strategic stability.

At weekly briefing here on Thursday, Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said it has been our consistent position that the NSG membership for the non-NPT states must be dealt with in accordance with a single, uniform, non discriminatory and fair criteria.

He said Pakistan has been making efforts to muster support of the NSG members for its own membership. “The country has strong credentials to become a member of the NSG.” “Pakistan’s membership, in fact, is in the interest of the nuclear trading countries as it will further promote the non proliferation objectives”, spokesperson added.

He said better border management will help in stopping the movement of terrorists and criminal elements. To a question, he said efforts are underway for repatriation of Afghan refugees. He said dignified return of Afghan refugees is the responsibility of international community. The spokes person urged Afghan government to take concrete steps for repatriation of Afghan refugees living in Pakistan.

The spokesperson said Pakistan wants talks with the neighboring country for the resolution of all the outstanding issues. He said Pakistan is deeply concerned over human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and has raised this matter forcefully at several international forums.

Zakaria said Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will not only benefit Pakistan but also the entire region.
