An American beauty brand just launched a line of nail polish for Muslim women.
ORLY’s Halal Paint claims to be prayer-friendly and water permeable making it ideal for use by Muslim women.
MuslimGirl.com (a lifestyle website for Muslim women) teamed up with the Los Angeles-based nail polish company ORLY to release a limited supply of a collection of six nail polishes.
The collection known as ‘#HalalPaint’, debuted during the holy month of Ramadan, featuring beautiful colours of nail paints that are composed of 100 percent halal ingredients. Reports have revealed that its constituents have been declared fit within a variety of religious requirements.
The ORLY polishes are permeable to water and air. This ensures that it is removed during ‘Wudhu’ (ablution), which is performed before prayers. This has offered a solution to many women who stopped wearing nail polish because they were concerned it may interfere with their Wudhu requirement.
According to reports, #HalalPaint’s “breathable” technology makes it possible for water and oxygen to pass through the layer of paint on a microscopic level.
ORLY reportedly claims that the formula offers longer wear and less chipping, and eliminates the need for base coats and top coats. It also contains nutrients like Argan Oil and Vitamin C that ensure healthy nails.
Other companies to produce water permeable Halal Nail Polish include, Poland-based “Inglot Cosmetics” and the Canadian Company, “Tuesday in Love”.
A number of Islamic scholars have expressed a variety of responses to the growing trend of using Halal Nail Polishes. Some are very optimistic about the idea whereas the others are concerned about the trend invalidating the ritual washing that is required before prayer. However, Muslim Women are taking this trend as an interesting way to adhere to their faith.
#HalalPaint claims to be certified Halal by the Islamic Society of The Washington Area.
COS (Chief of Staff) of MuslimGirl.com, Azmia Magane said that she feels that the collection is very important because it highlights the desire for an American Beauty Brand to cater to Muslim Women. She said in a press release, “This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren’t represented in mainstream beauty. They either don’t fit that definition or see things about them that are designed without them, instead of for them and by them. This is our way of bridging that gap.”
#HalalPaint’s polishes were given names that would be instantly recognizable to American Muslim women ― including titles that cheekily play with common Muslim names, like “What the Fatima?”, “Ig-Noor the Haters” and “The Perfect Amani-cure.” ORLY also focused on giving #HalalPaint’s polishes names that would be instantly recognisable by Muslim Women. Some of the catchy phrases from the collection include, ”What the Fatima?”, ”Ig-Noor the Haters” and ”The Perfect Amani-cure”.
MuslimGirl.com Founder, Amani Al-Khatahtbeh said during the release, “Many of us are the girls who could never find our names on a keychain, so we wanted to make sure we provided that experience through this collection.”
The collection of six nail polishes is selling for $49 at www.halalpaint.com.
