Mehdi Hassan, born on 18 July 2018, belonged to the family of musicians. His relationship with music can be understood by the fact that he had a musical background where people were already practising music and instruments in the family. The musical pieces that he produced are still liked and listened every single day. His works like Ranjish hi sahi and Ek Husn ki devi se mujhe pyar hua tha, Jab koi pyar se bulaye ga, tum ko ek shakhs yaad aye ga are still listened, produced and there are so many recreations of these songs. He sang for 300 films during his musical career. He was awarded Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan. He was the leading singer of film industry along with Ahmed Rushdi. He worked in the area of poetry for Urdu and he specifically worked in the area of Ghazal. His ghazals were liked nationwide as well as in the whole world. His song based on the poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz was Gulon me rang bhare was so popularised and liked among audiences.

He served as a playback singer as well in Lollywood and he inspired various singers belonging from different genres such as Jagjit Singh and Sonu Nigam. In 1947, Pakistan became an independent state and Mehdi Hassan had to move to Pakistan, he was 20 years old at that time. He along with his family had to face many financial crises, he worked at a bicycle shop and later became the diesel tractor mechanic. Despite having all the hardships and financial problems, he never left his music practice and his will for being a singer.

In 1957, he was given the opportunity to sing for Radio Pakistan. He further met the radio officers i.e. Z.A.Bukhari and Rafiq Anwer, who further strengthen his capabilities in the area of Ghazal. He died on 13 June 2012, due to the long-term ailment in Karachi.
