Mayor Karachi to go to court for handing over Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim

KARACHI: Karachi’s Iconic park could not be given to anyone, it’s the property of Municipal Corporation, said Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar.

While talking to the media, Mayor Waseem said that Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim was given as a gift by a Parsi family. Nobody is permitted to be given or adopt the park. It’s the property of the Municipal Corporation. The notification of park’s adoption is illegal. He criticized the Sindh government over the issue and declared that he will go to court.

He criticized the method of handing over of the park and said that PPP had secretly made agreement with Bahria Town. No one was aware and all of a sudden, a 20th grade officer issued a notification that the park was handed over to Bahria.

The mayor also said that the park is a public property and it could not be used for any commercial purposes. We would not permit anyone to grasp Karachi.

He clarified that if he was consulted, he would oppose it. He demanded that the legal matters should be met before handing over the park. Karachi should be a beautiful city. Parks should be made in the city, we will fully cooperate to beautify Karachi, he added.

While criticizing the government, he said that PPP should cooperate with the elected persons. PPP has been adapted to administrators and ignoring the elected persons. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had accepted failure for cleanliness in Karachi, Waseem said. He also declared that MQM never employed ghost.
