Karachi to face heat wave this year similar to 2015

KARACHI: The director of the Karachi health office has issued an alert, saying that during this summer the resident of Karachi would face the situation similar to the one in 2015.

“We are expecting the same situation this year. Keeping with the previous experience in mind, we have to prepare ourselves before time,” the notification read.

The notice was issued to the executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and medical superintendents of Civil Hospital and general Hospitals in Korangi, Saudabad, Ibrahim Hyderi, and Liaquatabad, Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town, Children Hospital North Nazimabad and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and to others.

The hospitals were directed to keep their preparations to cope such situation. It also directed the hospitals regarding the establishment of heatstroke treatment and stabilization centers to provide emergency medical treatment. The allocation of medical staff and separate beds should also be arranged. Heat crisis management plan should also be made.

Executive Director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Dr. Seemin Jamali had said that the hospital is fully prepared to deal with the situation. She stressed that awareness should be created before time. So that, this time the huge loss could be prevented. Further, she advised that the natives of Karachi should hydrate themselves during the hot water.

Last year, hundreds of the people lost their lives due to the rising temperature. The deceased include a huge number of old-age persons and children. The death toll risen above 700 during the summers. The long timed load shedding made situation the worst especially for those who were fasting.
