Islamabad: Islamabad Police Thursday lodged FIR against unidentified persons involved in spreading sacrilegious content on social media.

The case has been registered after Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the government to book those, in cases under relevant clauses, who were running blasphemous pages on social media website.

FIR read that blasphemous content was spread over these pages against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions due to which sentiments of Muslims were being hurt.

The case has been registered under state’s blasphemy laws.

On March 7, IHC ordered interior ministry to prohibit access to blasphemous content even if it required to block whole access to social media sites. Court also said that blasphemers were terrorists and if action would not be taken against them then the country could move towards civil war.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui also issued orders to put names of alleged Facebook pages owners’ names in Exit Control List (ECL).
