Police on Wednesday claimed to have nailed seven kidnappers, including an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inspector and two policemen.
Lahore SSP (Investigations) Ghulam Mubashir Maken told the media that the detainees kidnapped patwaris for ransom and Rs8.8 million booty was recovered from them.
“The SSP said the suspects had connections with the revenue department officials and they had a list of Patwaris (serving in Lahore) and they were their next target,” held at the Investigations police headquarters on Wednesday.
He said police received a complaint from patwari Irfan that he was kidnapped and later released after paying the ransom. The suspects also kidnapped another patwari Khalid Husain and got millions of rupees to release him.
He said the investigation showed that the gang comprising an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inspector, two retired patwaris and as many Mughalpura constables were involved in kidnapping people for ransom. The gang was led by Sarfraz Khan and Muhammad Qasim.
Further investigations were underway.
