Gilgit: Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Hafiz Hafeez-ur Rehman has said India is investing money in order to spoil the Kalabagh Dam project.
Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman asserted that if the Kalabagh Dam had been built, the country would have benefited from it and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) could have been saved from flood-generated damages every year.
He added that negative propaganda is being framed against the construction of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He said the GB was rich in cultural diversity but, unfortunately, the diversity was used for destroying peace of the region.
He stated that before the construction of Karakoram Highway, the people of GB were of the view that they were living in era of Stone Age.
He remarked these statements as he was addressing the annual get together of GB Student Council at Punjab University (PU) here on Friday.
Moreover, PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran and other faculty members of the department were also present on this occasion.
“With the construction of one road, the Karakoram Highway, there had been significant change in all the sectors of the region,” Hafiz maintained.
He went on to say that the area which prevails under the politics of provincialism at the cost of nationalism could not make progress under any circumstances.
He informed the attendants that idea of sub-nationalism was deliberately promoted under a conspiracy.
GB CM maintained that the biggest challenge to the incumbent GB government was to restore peace and now there was peaceful environment in the whole region.
At the end, he also thanked Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif and VC Dr Mujahid Kamran for providing scholarships to the GB students.
