IHC summons Interior Minister over blasphemous content on social media

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday directed Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to present himself before the court on Wednesday (tomorrow) over the presence of sacrilegious content on social media.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of IHC heard the petitions filed against the presence of objectionable and blasphemous content on social media sites seeking directions for the government to block all these pages.

During the case hearing he said that the serious matter could not be left to bureaucracy and asked Chaudhry Nisar to present himself in his personal capacity tomorrow and tell the court that what initiatives have been taken against such elements.

Justice Siddiqui also said that if steps would not be taken against blasphemers then it would leave effects on security and peace conditions of the country; he added, no one hurt our feelings earlier the way it is done through social media.

He declared blasphemers as terrorists and could not control his emotions as his tears welled up in the respect of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). Justice Siddiqui added, “I sacrifice myself, my parents, my life, job and all what I have in the honor of Allah’s messenger (Peace Be Upon Him).” He said that if such pages could not be blocked then PTA should be sent home.

Petitioner Salman Shahid, has filed petition in the Islamabad High Court through his counsel Tariq Asad, alleging that blasphemy was being committed through certain pages on social media by five bloggers, including Professor Salman Haider, Ahmed Waqas Goraya, Asim Saeed, Samar Abbas and Ahmed Raza Naseer who had created pages such as ‘Bhainsa’ ‘Mochi’ and ‘Roshni’.
