Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday has directed the government to put alleged blasphemers’ names on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui asked government to register cases against suspected blasphemers running social media pages. He also directed Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to setup teams for monitoring blasphemous material on social media and asked to remove the content.
Justice Shaukat Aziz said that if an immediate action would not be taken on the serious issue then the state could move towards civil war. He also directed authorities to submit report over eliminating sacrilegious content from social media on Thursday.
Yesterday, IHC had instructed the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar to present himself in his personal capacity on Wednesday (today). Nisar, however, requested exemption referring to his eye-operation.
Petitioner Salman Shahid has filed petition in the Islamabad High Court through his counsel Tariq Asad, alleging that blasphemy was being committed through certain pages on social media by five bloggers, including Professor Salman Haider, Ahmed Waqas Goraya, Asim Saeed, Samar Abbas and Ahmed Raza Naseer who had created pages such as ‘Bhainsa’ ‘Mochi’ and ‘Roshni’.
