Washington: Initial investigation reports on the hacking of several internet-based social websites revealed that the hackers approached the popular websites through internet-connected devices such as CCTV cameras and printers, the security analysts claimed.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Friday the social websites such as Twitter, Spotify, and Reddit were among the websites that were taken offline.
Meanwhile, the security analysts also exposed that the company Dyn was the target of the hackers who used the internet-connected things to launch the assault.
It is noteworthy here that Dyn company is a DNS service – an internet ‘phone book’ which leads users to the internet address where the website is stored and on Friday, it came under attack. It involved tens of thousands of internet addresses.
Moreover, Security agency Flashpoint informed that the attack used botnets infected with the Mirai malware to attack the Dyn.
The agency went on to informing that the malware is created by Chinese staff that allows easy access to username and password that cannot be changed by the user.
It has been reported that the owner of the Dyn would have no way of knowing that it had been used in an attack, the agency said.
This Friday incident has marked a change in tactics for online attackers. But surprisingly, the DDoS attack can only hit one website at a time but on Friday, it acted as a service for huge numbers of firms and affected several of world’s leading and popular websites at once.
