Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced on Friday that two-year bachelor programs will be abolished from 2018.
According to media reports, the decision of ending the said courses was made in high level meeting of HEC.
The education commission has also forwarded letters to Vice Chancellors (VCs) of all universities to restrain admissions in two-year BA and BSc programs.
From 2018, students will only be able to get admission in four years BS Honours program degrees.
Authorities have also decided to replace two-year master’s programs, i.e. MA and MSC with M-Phill programs in 2020.
The decision of replacing two-year degree programs with four-year degree has been taken to make Pakistani degrees globally standardized as students faced hurdles in verification of two-year degrees internationally.
Most of the universities, all around the country, were already enrolling students in BS (hons) programs but 2-year traditional degrees were not being totally eliminated. However, the notification stated to abolish BA and BSc programs.
