Gujranwala, a large city with more than 5 million population is severely suffering from an acute shortage of clean drinking water facility.
Number of hepatitis C patients is increasing because of contaminated water. Quality of underground water is being damaged due to improper waste management of local Industry. In order to provide clean drinking water facility to the people , city district government has installed hundreds of water filtration plants in various parts of city but most of the plants are not in working position due to delayed maintenance issues.
A large mass of population has no access to the clean drinking water facilities. The other part of the story is that people are being forced to buy costly bottled water as there is no other alternative for them. District government’s traditional non pragmatic work approach is also further aggravating the situation.
