Five martyred as roof of mosque collapses in Karachi
KARACHI: At least five people were martyred and ten others injured when roof a mosque partially collapsed in North Nazimabad area of Karachi on Friday.
According to details, the mosque is located at Karachi’s North Nazimabad area near the Landi Kotal round about. Rescue teams shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Some of them were said to be in critical condition.
Locals rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped under the rubble. A large number of worshipers had gathered at the mosque for Friday prayers near Landi Kotal Chowrangi in North Nazimabad.
The tragic incident occurred as a shed collapsed on the porch of the mosque. Several people were buried under the rubble who were then pulled out by rescue official.
The devout were in the mosque offering the weekly Friday prayers when the roof collapsed.
The dead bodies were also shifted to the hospital.
Pakistan has a poor safety record in the construction and maintenance of buildings.
In September 2014, 24 worshippers were killed when roof of a mosque collapsed in Daroghawala area of Lahore.
