FIA fails to hold LNG scam inquiry

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has failed in conducting an inquiry of a scam which revolved around the award of contract for PGP production in Sindh.
In 2003, the Sui Southern Company Limited (SSGL) and the Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL) which are subsidiaries of Pakistan Gas Port Limited (PGPL) have reached an agreement regarding the production of PPG in Sindh.
According to the defense minister Khawaja Asif, the decision was challenged in 2013 in Supreme Court. The court was headed by CJ Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry who was aligned with the decision which consequently termed the agreement volatile of set laws.
It was also ordered by the FIA to courts that a complete inquiry and report should be submitted as soon as possible. It was also ordered by the court that inquiry must be held on the prominent political figures from JJVL Chief M Zahid Iqbal to recover billion of rupees.
According to sources, no voice was raised on the issue by Khawaja Asif.
On May 16th, 2015, second LNG terminal project was awarded by SSGL to Akbar Associates. Low tariff of 49.87 cent per million British Thermal Unit (mmbtu) was offered to the Akbar Associates in order to set up LNG terminal while PGPL failed to win the bid.
Reports have been forged by with all the prominent political leaders as no one had the idea that any inquiry would be carried out against them.
According to sources:

‘Ahmed provides his air-crafts to heads of political parties to launch their electoral campaign. His air-crafts remain in use of some political leaders permanently. Inquires against him can bear no fruit’

Ahmed had launched his business from the market of LPG company. Ahmed was notorious for getting his company’s quota from OGDCL.
A report was presented in PAC, the names of major benificiaries were provided which included the names of Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, Gen® Munir Hafiz, Senator Gulzar Ahmed, Minister Moin Haider, Aftab Sherpao, Khalid Maqbool, ex President NBA Ali Raza, Capt® Basharat, Brig® Siraj, Gen® Tariq Majid, Humayun Farid, Gen® Rehmat Khan, Rizwan Panjwani, Ishtiaq Asif Jamal Akbar Jamali are included.
These names have swept billions from LPG.
