Federal government to hold meeting of Muslim ambassadors over blasphemous content

Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali khan on Thursday (today) held meeting of Muslim world’s ambassadors over the presence of blasphemous content on social media.

The interior minister had announced on yesterday that he would summon all Muslims envoys to get consultation on this serious matter to formulate joint strategy to raise the matter at international forums with sincere efforts.

Chudhry Nisar while talking to media persons, said he was of the view that all Muslims being united could send an effective message at the global level and to social media websites that they cannot bear blasphemy. The Muslims being together can show that they would not allow someone to play with their feelings through sacrilegious content.

He said: “There should be a joint plan of action on the issue.”

Nisar also informed that Facebook had been approached in this context, which would also send its delegation to Pakistan over the issue.

He stated, “After getting the approval from the prime minister, Organization of Islamic Cooperation and Raabta Alam-e-Islami will be approached.”

Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court is already hearing the petition filed against the presence of blasphemous material on social media website.

In the last day hearing (Wednesday), bench also remarked to ban the Facebook till the issue was completely resolved.

Punjab assembly had also adopted a resolution against the presence of blasphemous material on social media.
