Denmark: According to the Swedish scientists, diet drinks can be just bad for you, as they have revealed that drinking just two glasses of diet drinks a day doubles the risk of developing diabetes.
The scientists claimed that many of us have abandoned our favorite sugary drinks in order to get rid of diabetes risk and to boost our health but they went informing that calorie-free drinks make us feel more hunger.
They informed that artificial sweeteners interfere with the bacteria in our gut that may cause diabetes.
The research was carried out in Sweden’s Karolinska Institute on 2, 874 adults who had completed one year of drinking diet drinks.
It was noticed that those people who were taking two or more drinks a day were 2.4 times more likely to develop type-2 diabetes. These drinks included sugary beverages and artificial diet drinks such as Diet Coke and sugar free cordials.
The doctors went on to inform that having five or more sugar-free drinks a day increased the risk by 4.5 times.
Moreover, the study exposed that taking 200ml glass of a sugary drink increases the risk of type-2 diabetes by 21 percent. The research was published in the European Journal of Endocrinology. Separately, last November the scientists at the Karolinska Institute also found that people who had two diet drinks a day were 23 per cent more likely to develop heart failure.
