Tragically, the alleged shooter is identified as a 19-year-old former student, Nikolas Cruz. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told media that the man was a former student of the school.
The shooter possessed an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and perhaps a handgun as he entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Wednesday afternoon and opened fire. He was detained “without incident” off-campus about an hour after the bloody rampage unfolded, causing 17 dead, and leaving dozens injured.
He was previously expelled from school for the violation of discipline.
As reported by the administration, Cruz was “expelled for disciplinary reasons,”
Cruz had been debarred from entering campus for his violation of rules and making threats to fellow students. His math teacher, Jim Gard, told the media, “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus,”
Shooting happened right before the close-timings of the school.
Cruz was notorious for having troubles with “every single teacher” at the school, a senior student told the media.
“Every single teacher he ever had, there was a problem,” a fellow student said.
Cruz lately lost his mother and was living with a family that took him in after she passed away in November 2017. Cruz also lost his father back in 2004. Cruz is most likely to under many psychological tests prior and during his trial for the shooting.
