Hillary Clinton has called on junior United States senator Bernie Sanders to join the proposed Democratic debate to be held in coming week in New Hampshire.
In an interview on-aired on Wednesday, Hillary said, “I am ready for the debate, and I hope Sen. Sanders will change his mind and join us. I think the DNC and the campaigns should be able to work this out. I’ve been for, you know, for a long time, that I would be happy to have more debates, and I hope we can get this done.”
The anchor asked if she wished the Democratic National Committee to ‘sanction the debate’ and Clinton replied, “I would like the chairman of the parties and the campaigns to agree we can debate in New Hampshire next week.”
NBC and New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper also proposed sponsoring the debate on February 4 which would occur outside the original debate schedule approved by the DNC.
Clinton and Martin O’Malley said that they would be open for joining however, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver told that his candidate was not interested in ‘an unsanctioned debate’.
DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said, “We have no plans to sanction any further debates before the upcoming First in the Nation caucuses and primary.”
