Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has taken Suo Moto notice of the death of a traffic warden in Quetta, who was killed when a vehicle allegedly belonging to a Balochistan legislator ran him over earlier this month.

“Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan takes notice of killing of traffic police official in Quetta and calls report from IGP Balochistan within three days and directs DPO DG Khan to ensure that there shall be no threat/ pressure on family of deceased police official.
Before proceeding to Umerah today, HCJP Mr Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of incident of killing of a traffic police official in Quetta’s GPO Chowk area earlier this week allegedly by a vehicle belonging to a serving legislator, Majeed Khan Achakzai.
Taking notice of the incident HCJP has called report from IGP Balochistan within three days and has also directed DPO Dera Ghazi Khan through IGP Punjab to ensure that there shall be no threat /pressure on family of deceased police officer.
The incident took place on June 20 when a fast-moving vehicle belonging to Achakzai hit and ran over the traffic warden, identified as Sub-Inspector Haji Attaullah Dashti, at the GPO Chowk. The warden suffered serious injuries and later died at hospital.”
Achakzai is currently in police custody under 5-day judicial remand in Quetta. It is expected that case will be heard by the apex court in coming week.
He admitted to driving the vehicle when the accident took place and also expressed his desire to settle the issue with the victim’s family as per tribal traditions. He expressed his willingness to pay the blood money to the deceased warden’s family and compensation to an injured passer-by.
Achakzai was elected a member of the Balochistan Assembly in the 2013 elections from a Qila Abdullah constituency (PB-13).
