Islamabad: Prominent lawyer, activist of Pakistan Movement and Chairman Jinnah Thinkers Forum (JTF) Azad Bin Haider on Tuesday has demanded the government to conduct the census immediately.
Addressing a press conference here at National Press Club, JTF chief said that retired General of Pakistan Army should be designated as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and bureaucrats as members because judiciary has no administrative experience.
During the press conference, Azad Bin Haider also presented the 21-points electoral reforms report, in which establishment of free and fair election commission, problems faced by voters and other matters were highlighted in detail.
“Census had not been conducted for the last 18 years owing to which social rights of citizens were badly affecting. It was a lame excuse of government in Supreme Court that army is free just now”, he added and maintained that an independent commission be formed for house counting and census under the chairmanship of acting Army General or bureaucrat.
The commission should be free from the influence of Interior Ministry, he added. JTF’s chief said that it is necessary to cast vote in electoral reforms, minimum qualification of voter should be matriculation and academic standard should be fixed for the parliamentarians.
He further said that internal elections of political parties should be held at center, province and district level under the supervision of Election Commission. The polling process should be completed in three days. Polling stations should be setup in universities, press clubs, Chambers of Commerce, District Courts, High courts, Supreme Court, air ports, railway stations, jails, bus terminals and hospitals.
