CDA Kicked Start Spring Tree Plantation Campaign

Islamabad: CDA (Capital Development Authority) kicked start its 2016’s Spring Tree Plantation Campaign during a colourful ceremony that was held at Fatima Jinnah (F-9) Park on Monday. Maroof Afzal, Chairperson, CDA inaugurated the campaign by planting a seedling at F-9 Park.

Many people, like Member Environment Sanaullah Aman, Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmed, number of diplomats, senior officers of the Authority, federal secretaries, environmentalists, students of different educational institutes, officers of the Authority, NGOs and the representatives of govt.,  semi-government and private organizations participated in the inaugural ceremony of the Spring Tree Plantation campaign. Along with some renowned drama artists like Farah Hamid and Laila Zuberi.

An awareness walk was also held that aimed to highlight the importance of plants and healthy a human life. On this festival, Chairman CDA, Maroof Afzal stated that Islamabad was the only city of the world that was developed on the concept of green city and that CDA was taking some solid measures for the conservation and improvement of its green charm. He also said that the residents of this city are the main stakeholders and that the city could further be beautified with their assistance and alliance.

He also said that to serve this purpose, CDA has launched mass Spring Tree Plantation Drive, trying to engage all segments of civil society. It included individuals, children, educational institutions, business and industry community, media, NGOs and government departments so that Islamabad could be greener and cleaner

Maroof Afzal said that slogan of the campaign, ‘’Plant a Tree-Make Islamabad Pollution Free’’ was their unified pledge that all their efforts would be to make Islamabad a pollution free city.

He claimed that CDA taking an initiative to introduce  biodegradable plastic bags, that is a major step to eliminate plastic pollution.  He stated that comprehensive campaign have been launched, that aimed to preserve and protect and the bio-diversity of Margalla Hills National Park. Mr. Afzal added that besides tree plantation, their focus was ti sensitize the civil society, especially students about the importance of a healthy environment

Apprising the Chairperson CDA, Sanaullah Aman , Member Environment stated that  this year, CDA has planned to plant around 300,000 seedlings, however, with the alliance of NGOs and the different institutions 450,000 plants including would be planted in the different areas of Islamabad. During the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign, CDA pledged to plants around 225,000 plants/trees in the rural areas of the city while 75,000 plants will be planted in the urban area chiefly in different residential sectors, green belts along major highways median strips of avenues, and parks that would eventually help to enhance the natural beauty of Islamabad.

Maroof Afzal along with the Member Administration, Mr. Amer Ali Ahmed visited the stalls of, Mission Green Islamabad, WWF, Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate, Clean & Green Pakistan and other organizations.
