Budgies: The famous pet parrots in Pakistan
Budgerigar also known as parakeet is a small seed-eating parrot. Informally, it is known as budgie or Australian parrot in local language. Budgies are common as pets in most parts of world including Pakistan, originally in Australia. These pets are extremely popular- ranking third after dog and cat. This ranks them number one in birds. These Australian parrots are 18 cm in length and are inhabitants of scrub-lands, open woodlands and grasslands. There are more than five million budgies in wild, today. These are few facts about this popular species.
Budgies are smallest among all types of parrots. These 18 cm long parrots weigh 24-40 grams.
DIFFERENT COLOURS AND SHADES
Budgies have different colour mutations. There are primarily 32 color mutations. The colour combinations consists of blue, white, grey, green, yellow etc.
It is common myth about budgies that they eat only seeds and grains. Budgies are wild birds, there range of diet consists of fruits and veggies. They love to eat apple, strawberries, bananas, spinach, corn and cabbage etc.
Budgies tend to be social in nature. They can be a source of entertainment if they are given proper centre of attention.
PLAYFUL AND FUN LOVING
These parakeets posses a joyful attitude. They love to play with toys like swings.
They yawn too. Budgies do yawn when they are sleepy. Sounds stupid, right?

It seemed to be unbelievable for most of us but Budgie can learn to talk. However, it requires a lot of effort as compared to original talking parrots.
Budgies unlike most of the birds don’t tend to make nests. They usually use tree holes as their hideout.
PROS AND CONS OF OWNING A BUDGIE
Having budgie as a pet won’t be same as owning a cat or a dog. Budgies are social and with the passage of time will show affection if you interact with them properly. However budgies are sensitive in nature. You have to look after their medical health. Having budgies can possibly result in a noisy environment.
