Blasphemous Content Case: All responsibility left on Interior Minister, says IHC

Islamabad: During today hearing of the case about the presence of blasphemous content over social media, the Islamabad High Court’s Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui got irked over the government institutes; said that all had left the whole responsibility on Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar. 

Justice Siddiqui said: “Where are IT minister and experts? Where is the minister for religious affairs? The entire government has left the job on Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.”

He questioned that when will Anosha Rehman tell the court that why the issue had not been resolved so far.

During Monday hearing of the case, Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Syed Ismail Shah informed the court that action has been taken against 40 Facebook pages which were involved in spreading the blasphemous material through social media.

The court was also being informed by the Interior Secretary Arif Khan that 85 percent of sacrilegious content has been removed, he added that shutting down the social media platform was not the solution to the matter.

Secretary stated that only 10 to 15 percent of the blasphemous content existed now.

Justice Siddiqui was also informed that three individuals have been arrested who were using the social media platform to spread the such content.

The court showed satisfaction over the progress made by the concerned authorities.

The court adjourned hearing till March 31.

The Anti terrorism Court on Friday approved the remand of three individuals who were detained by the mutual efforts of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and agencies personnel.  It was being reported that the suspects were using foreign SIM cards for uploading blasphemous material on web and were also in contact with people living outside Pakistan.

Court hints Facebook blocking over blasphemous material

In the last hearing of the case, court hinted over the blocking of Facebook as the matter was not being resolved so far.
