So far, “Black Panther” has grossed $521 million at home market, claiming it the ninth-highest release of all time. In its fourth weekend, “Black Panther” would be shooting for a $40 million-plus weekend, making it the No. 2 superhero release of all time crossing over “The Dark Knight’s” $535 million.
It would also translate the fifth-highest fourth weekend of all time for the Black Panther, snatching the title from “The Avengers” with $36.7 million. “Avatar” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ,at the moment, hold the first and second spot, with $50.3 million and $42.4 million respectively. A 44% drop for the tentpole’s fourth weekend would be at par with its third weekend decline of 41%.
Internationally, “Black Panther” is targeting for the $500 million mark this month, thanks to a strong debut in China, where it opened to a huge figure of $20 million in its first day.
“Black Panther” has been acclaimed for its diversity as a big-budget superhero tentpole with a nearly all black cast. Set in the backdrop of fictional African nation of Wakanda, Chadwick Boseman stars alongside Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Michael B. Jordan.
