Mattel has announced a new and major makeover of the doll that is aimed to satisfy the concerns and would be a big hit for the toy making giant.
Mattel has added at least three new body types to the line:
The company also bragged out that this year’s schedule of Barbies has seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and almost 24 hairstyles to make the toy more diverse.
The senior director of product design Robert Best said in the video, “This is radical. Because we’re saying there isn’t this narrow standard of what a beautiful body looks like.”
A little girl says: It’s important for Barbies to look different. You know, like the real people in the world.
The new dolls would be available on Mattel’s website on Thursday and also will begin moving store shelves throughout the spring.
Mattel has been undergoing different steps to transform its variety of girls’ toys for an era of raised awareness regarding gender stereotypes.
