Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif, born on 1 July 1950, has been lately in news for her deteriorating health due to NHL, Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. She has been going through chemotherapy and radiation for her aggressive carcinoma. Her recent admission to the hospital on Monday, Harley Street Clinic, was caused by her increasing dehydration and extreme fatigue. Due to radiotherapies, she felt nauseated all the time with extremely poor appetite.
Dr. Daniel Krell, her oncologist, recommended to keep her admitted in Harley Street Clinic till the time she gets symptomatic relief.
Begum Kalsoom Nawaz was recently visited by her daughter, Maryam Nawaz, and her Husband, former PM, Nawaz Sharif, who had to come back to Pakistan to attend to their legal liabilities. As of now, she is attended by her sons and other relatives.
Owing to the court hearings and corruption charges leveled against the entire Sharif clan, both father and daughter shuttle between Pakistan and UK quite often.
As her last political activity undertaken, Begum Sharif, contested NA-120 by-election from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and has emerged victorious with 61,745 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Dr. Yasmin Rashid remained the runner-up with 47,099 votes. A tough competition was observed between Begum Kalsoom Nawaz and Dr. Yasmin Rashid. Other popular candidates who participated in the by-election for NA-120 included Pakistan People s Party’s (PPP) Faisal Mir, Jamaat Islami’s (JI) Zia ud-Din Ansari and Milli Muslim League’s (MML) supported candidate Yaqoob Sheikh.
