Karachi: Aziz Abad police has recovered arsenal of heavy weapons from an abandoned house near MQM headquarter Nine Zero.
The unearthed heavy weapons include 300 rocket launchers, anti-ballistic machine guns, hundreds of short machine guns (SMGs) and thousands of bullets.
The recovery is being taken as the biggest arms recovery in the history of Karachi, the sources revealed.
The arsenal was so immense in numbers that the police hired at least 5 mazda trucks to shift the weapons. According to the sources, the police raided the abandoned house where a water tank was loaded with heavy weapons instead of water.
The house is vacated for almost three years and is located near Lal Qila Ground, one of the local residents reported.
The house is just 25 feet away from the main head office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM, the sources exposed.
The police has been successful in finding out a calendar of year 2014 hanging on the wall while the house is registered in the name of Sh Naeemullah.
The police has sealed the house number 824/8 in Aziz Abad, from which the weapons have been discovered.
The weapons have been shifted to DIG West Office where the police officials are counting them.
Meanwhile, a press conference was held by the police officials regarding the recovery of weapons.
During the press conference regarding this recovery and raid, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) told the media persons that the raid was launched at 5am today.
The AIG informed that the raid was launched on the information given by a worker of a political party.
AIG Mushtaq Maher asserted that a political party is involved in purchasing of the weapons. When he was asked about the name of the party, Mushtaq said that the name of the party would be revealed after its confirmation.
Moreover, AIG informed that the weapons would have been used on the eve of 9th and 10th Muharram.
The representatives of other political parties have said that MQM could be involved in this heinous crime.
