Peshawar: An anti-polio campaigner was shot dead in Khyber Agency on Wednesday, the officials reported.
According to political agent, the incident took place in Jamrud Tehsil where unknown gunmen opened fire on a polio team busy in vaccination in the area.
The injured worker, Fazal Amin, was shifted in critical condition to Hayatabad Medical Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
The polio vaccination campaigns are underway across Pakistan, one of only two polio endemic countries left in the world.
A day earlier, a policeman was killed and two others suffered injuries when an explosion hit a police party providing security to a polio vaccination team near Peshawar on Tuesday. According to police officials, two explosions took place in the area.
