According to Baaghi’s sources, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, born on 1 July 1950, the wife of Nawaz Sharif, has been passed away. But for petty political reasons, this tragic news has been kept hidden from media by her family.
Begum Kulsom Nawaz’s health had been on decline for the past few months due to lymphoma. But, recently, her condition worsened. Despite the numerous chemotherapy sessions and critical surgeries, her throat cancer had recurred lately. Owing to these medical complications, she suffered a massive cardiac arrest on 15 June, 2018 and lapsed into coma.
Due to NHL (Non Hodgkin Lymphoma), she went through many painful sessions of chemotherapy and radiation for her aggressive carcinoma. She was admitted to Harley Street Clinic, and was suffering from increasing dehydration and extreme fatigue through out her stay at the Harley. Due to consecutive radio-therapies, she felt nauseated all the time with extremely poor appetite ultimately succumbing to fatal cardiac arrest.
Her husband, Mian Nawaz Sharif, and daughter, Maryam Nawaz, flew from Pakistan to attend to her on the occasion of Eid but found her unconscious upon arrival. Doctors were unable to revive her, hence put her on artificial life-support.
Owing to the court hearings and corruption charges leveled against the entire Sharif clan, both father, Nawaz Sharif, and daughter, Maryam Nawaz, shuttle between Pakistan and UK quite often. On her way to London, Maryam Nawaz tweeted this @MaryamNSharif:
Though, there was no internal bleeding but due to her failing condition, she was immediately put on ventilator. And they can continue indefinitely with this condition of hers as long as they wish or encash. According to the sources, she suffered from multiple organ failures as well including brain death.
Pertinent to note here, doctors had already clearly conveyed her condition to the family.
So far, the news of the death of Begum Nawaz has been kept as a tight family-secret. Since she was declared brain-dead, there was no hope left for her doctors to resuscitate her to life. But due to family pressure, her lifeless body would be kept on ventilator till Election 2018 are over or beyound, and PML-N, especially Maryam Nawaz, has ample chances to win the sympathy votes with this strategy. What a tragic and pathetic way to playing politics on dead bodies!
We, at Baaghi, hope that we learn to do politics in Pakistan with ethics. While Nawaz, Hasan, Hussain and Maryam are deciding the future course of action, it appears to be a business strategy with maximum profit for PML-N to do politics on ailing or an “allegedly” dead woman.
It is possible that the Sharif clan would ask for the removal of the ventilator support in the second week of July or later. If this decision is taken prior to the Elections of 2018 going to be held on July 25, there may not be many sympathy votes for PML-N.
Also pertinent to note here that Begum Nawaz was hospitalized for the past many months at Harley Street Clinic, and was also operated there for throat cancer.
Begum Nawaz, as her last political activity pushed forward, contested NA-120 by-election from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and came forth victorious with 61,745 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Dr. Yasmin Rashid remained the runner-up with 47,099 votes in the by elections of 2017. A very tough and controversial competition was observed between Begum Kalsoom Nawaz and Dr. Yasmin Rashid.
NA-120 by-elections included many famous candidates: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) was represented by Faisal Mir, Jamaat Islami’s (JI) was represented by Zia ud-Din Ansari and Milli Muslim League’s (MML) supported candidate Yaqoob Sheikh.
Pertinent to note here that two days ago on 17 June 2018, an unknown man was barred from entering Begum Nawaz’s room at Harley street. Clinic He was reported to authorities by her son, Hasan Nawaz .
Both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam have been exempted on Tuesday, 19 June 2018, from corruption hearings against them for the next four days. Another benefit of this tragic situation of Begum Nawaz is that her family is most likely to get political favours and legal leniency.
When Judge Mohammad Bashir of the Accountability Court started hearing the three National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references today against the Sharif clan, the lawyer of Nawaz and Maryam readily tendered the appearance exemption requests on behalf of his clients for another week.
