London, August 24 (Online):Alex Hales has the full support of the England team as he looks to rediscover his form in the one-day series against Pakistan, says captain Eoin Morgan, British media reported.
The Nottinghamshire opener averaged 19 in the Test series against the tourists and then failed to score for his county against Northants Steelbacks at NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day.
Such a score in T20 cricket can happen to the best and Morgan feels Hales will benefit from a run of 50-over cricket as he threw his weight behind him.
“I have been in that position before and it’s a nice feeling to be able to play with freedom in white-ball cricket,” said Morgan ahead of Wednesday’s opening game at Southampton.
“Alex played very well in the limited-overs matches in South Africa last winter, even though he didn’t have the best time in the Tests. He has the backing of everyone.”
Hales’ Notts team-mate Jake Ball was a late addition to the squad and he may miss out on a place in the team.
Ben Stokes is in the squad after recovering from a calf injury, although he will play as a batsman.
Pakistan go into the game boosted by the news they have risen to number one in the world Test rankings.
They are under the captaincy of Azhar Ali, who would not be drawn when he was asked about Hales’ mock tears when Azhar was hit while batting at the Oval in the most recent Test.
“It was one of those Test matches when things got a little bit hot but it all ended well so I don’t want to go into that,” he said.
