According to media reports, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader was attacked when he was leaving the event. According to the sources, he is stable now and out of danger. He was rushed to the hospital amid tight security right after the unfortunate incident. According to police, they have arrested the assailant, Abid, 21, a resident of the Shakargarh area, and have also launched an investigation.
In the initial investigation, the assailant, Abid, 21, confessed that he wanted to murder Ahsan Iqbal as the minister was instrumental in the case of Khatm-e-Nabuwat and Tauheen-e-Risalat. Ahsan Iqbal was not only instrumental in facilitating the culprit of Khatam-e-Nabuwat case but was also defending them publicly which enraged the masses.

According to the sources, agencies had already warned the Federal Minister of the attack and asked him not to attend public party meetings.
State Minister for Interior, Tallal Chaudry, has also confirmed that the suspect was arrested.
According to the Punjab government spokesperson, Ahsan Iqbal is out of danger; however, he is being shifted to Lahore for better medical care as the Chief Minister of Lahore, Shahbaz Sharif, has already sent a helicopter to fetch him.
Prime Minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while condemning the attack has asked IG Punjab to submit a report of the incident. The Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif has also condemned the attack while ordering an inquiry into the incident. He said that he would personally be monitoring the inquiry.
