Absar Alam, who was forced to step down from his post as Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on 18 December 2017 shortly after the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared his appointment illegal, managed to resume his membership of the National Press Club (NPC) today. Alam’s membership was suspended when he was appointed as Chairman PEMRA in 2015.
Alam had been drawing Rs.1.5 million salary a month however the post of PEMRA’s Chairman was equal to the MP-I (Management Position) scale with the maximum salary limit for Rs.450,000.
According to the petitioner, Ahmad, the appointment of Alam was a blatant case of nepotism and a clear violation of merit by the federal government.
