LAHORE: Pakistan’s former fast bowler Aaqib Javed questioned the strategy of coach Mickey Arthur and captain Sarfraz Ahmad on the ongoing tour of New Zealand.
The Kiwis have clean-sweep (5-0) Team Green in the five-match ODI series and have also won the opening game of the three-match T20 series by seven wickets at Wellington.
While talking to the media Aaqib said, “The policy adopted by coach and captain of rotating the players after every defeat in New Zealand is debatable.”
Aaqib further said that why did they send Babar Azam to bat on No.5 in the T20 match when he’s out of form and has been batting on No. 3 in the ODI series. He asked that why were they changing the opening pair in the every match of the ODI series.
He recalled a controversy between then coach Waqar Younis and Sarfraz Ahmad in the World Cup 2015 where Waqar was being criticized for not using Sarfraz as the opening batsman. In the current situation Sarfraz is the captain of the team and he should lead from the front, if they are facing any problem in the top-order skipper should change his batting order rather than sitting comfortably on the 6th spot.
Aaqib concluded, “Furthermore, Sarfraz’s own performance with the bat has been poor. Therefore he has to lead from the front and perform if he wants to have control over the team.”
